Local Sunday

Lots to update about but quickly, just wanted to post a picture from this morning.

My in-laws were in town for the night and this morning we took them to the farmer’s market in our neighbourhood just to look around. Along with a huge bag of fresh veggies, I bought some cheese from a local dairy and then found some interesting pickled items and jams at our neighbourhood cheese monger.

The Bumper Crop” is a locally produced line of pickled stuff and jams/chutneys. I’d been wanting to try their stuff for some time so today I picked up a jar of “twisted celery” and green tomato and garlic jam. I put both out with brunch and paired the jam with a pile of Ontario cheese.

The jam was a little sweeter than I’d hoped for (I’d envisioned something more salty and savory) but it paired well with the stronger tasting cheeses. My in-laws loved it so I sent them home with the rest of the jar. I think the celery would work really well in a bloody Caesar.

I’m looking forward to trying more stuff from the bumper crop’s line (balsamic strawberry and black pepper jam anyone?).
